High Flyer clears the skies!

hank you very much for sharing our story in Sri Lanka Marianne. It was a pleasure to work with you. It is my ambition to support young people and women in Sri Lanka to break those glass ceilings and to aspire to more than they thought was possible.

We are Tech Women interview with Our Founder Kanchana

An inspirational interview with our Founder Kanchana by We Are Tech Women about her work inspiring others to fly and also as a STEM Engagement Coordinator for Stempoint East

“Ensure that all organisations and businesses adopt diversity and inclusion policies as a priority. It’s vital that this is given the importance it deserves within workplaces – and not just a working party as a tick box exercise or a tokenistic gesture. Both employers and employees need to understand the importance of diversity and inclusion. And it’s not just an issue about women – it’s about supporting and championing all underrepresented groups in society.”

International Women's Day 2021

This is certainly how I feel today on International Women’s Day.

“Some of us have great runways already built for us. If you have one, take off! But if you don’t have one, realize it is your responsibility to grab a shovel and build one for yourself and for those who will follow after you.” - Amelia Earhart

It’s been a great journey in aviation over the past five years. One I thought I would never make given the lack of opportunities and finances earlier in life. But perseverance certainly helped to get me here - along with the most supportive, resilient and positive aviation community. It was always about helping others for me and never just about what I could achieve. I am truly grateful for everyone who supports the work we do. If we can build runways for others as well as ourselves surely that is even more worthwhile.

Celebrating our 5 year anniversary!

As we reach the 5 year anniversary of the Aviatrix Project today I have been thinking about all we have achieved. We’ve worked with over 500 schools and developed partnerships and collaborations with a large number of aviation organisations. Most importantly we’ve been able to inspire thousands of young people.

I’ve had a lifelong passion for aviation and I want to ensure that young women have ample opportunities to achieve their dreams. Being supported by female role models was key to my success and enjoyment whilst learning to fly. One of the main aims of this project is to raise aspirations of young girls and to promote aviation as an exciting and accessible career choice to all young people.

Ultimately I believe that we can use aviation as a tool to raise aspirations. I want to encourage young people – particularly young women – to believe in themselves and to know that there are no limits or barriers to achieving anything they set their mind to. This is even more important in the challenging times we find ourselves today.

I would like to extend the most sincere thank you to you all for your commitment and support for our work.

Kanchana Gamage - Founder & Director

The Air League scholarship for our Founder Kanchana!

It was such an honour to be at St James’s Palace last week. Having gained my PPL in 2015 I set up The Aviatrix Project to inspire others to take to the skies. I’ve had a lifelong passion for aviation and wanted to ensure that my experience in education and as a pilot could be combined to provide opportunities for others. Huge thanks to everyone who has supported us along the way. It really is a privilege to inspire the next generation.
